Totally agree, Especially when the one attacking you is 100 times higher than you.

Point is not to spend too much money if you are still not enough experienced player. Point is learn how to play and spend money over time, better after first ~500k points in total. And spend money in the right way, do not spend to buy slow and useless flagships. Best spending to officers and make great own production od resources, build solid technologies, then spend into some fast and usefull flagships like a Space Wanderers.

Best to know how to hide it, how to survive without loses.

kotek, yes, and if he spended £4000 already, like he said, its not problem to buy PREMIUM and use "far expedition" order. Look at his profile, hes is very unlucky but lucky in same time, he lost all, what he bought, but he have 8 moons from it lol. He can make army of Stations and join some good alliance then.
Just give him some advice, we need new blood in this game full of old dogs.
